​Description on the back: The Lanna Yi Peng festival, usually celebrated in November, sees thousands of traditional hot air balloon lanterns, known as khom loy, launched into the night sky by Thais and tourists alike. In recent years, the solemn sending off of these beautiful lanterns made of saa paper and bamboo has become a highlight of other special events, including weddings and New Year celebrations. It is said that, when set afloat on the evening breeze, they take with them one's troubles and misfortunes.
