End of An Era:
|
While we managed to break even this year, the writing is on the wall and we recognize breaking even will be an elusive goal going forward. With retained earnings and enough cash to pay full severance to our staff, we’ve made the decision to make a graceful exit, giving our dedicated team the chance to pursue futures with more potential than we can offer.
We are still in business through the end of May 2019, although stores all over Thailand have been largely cleared of Nancy Chandler’s unique Thai maps, cards and gifts as of May 1. |
Our office remains open, with several opportunities for fans to get great bargains on what we have left from our office, our website, and at fairs throughout Bangkok. (Keep scrolling beyond this letter for more details.) Select shops will restock and carry our unique collections into later months. Our maps will also still be available on Amazon and, in PDF form, from ourselves going forward. See below for more details. We thank all our staff, suppliers, wholesale clients, customers, and fans for supporting us through the years. We hope we’ve enhanced your experience of Thailand and things Thai, our maps giving you the confidence to explore, and our cards and gifts representing treasured memories for you. |
For those who knew Nancy, we trust that you would agree she would be happy with our decision. In her mid 70s when she passed in 2015, she always said the maps had become too much work and demands on her for new greeting card designs too much. Truthfully, we think she just wanted to see us rest and enjoy life to the fullest.
Things to expect from us in May:
- 25% discounts on maps and 50%+ discounts on all greeting cards and gifts purchased online for delivery in Thailand, at our office, or any of the fairs we are attending (keep scrolling for details).
- Interesting and fun Thailand Travel blog content that we’ve had on the back burner for a while, too busy to type up.
- Nostalgic stories to be shared online (please feel free to share your own), including a look back at trends through our maps and the people behind our products.
For those seeking our unique Thai maps, cards and gifts:
- Visit our website at www.nancychandler.net where discounts are already uploaded and designs low on stock tagged for your attention.
- Visit our office near Chong Nongsi BTS station, open Mon-Fri 9am-4pm.
- Visit us at any of the Bangkok fairs in May listed on this page, including one last shopping opportunity in Nichada Thani, two on Sukhumvit, and the grand Neilson Hays Library Book Fair on May 25-26 where we will have Nancy's large Bangkok-themed Elephant Parade statue for selfie fans along with some rare finds from our archives.
- Select shops will also restock in the coming month, and we will publish updated Where to Buy listings on our website in turn. In Bangkok, Sara Barn on Rambuttri just north of Khao San Road will continue to sell our maps and cards. In Chiang Mai, On the Road Books will be well stocked.
- Our paper maps will continue to be sold at www.Amazon.com for months going forward.
- PDFs of our maps, including market maps updated in 2019, will continue to be sold online on our website for some time.
- Updates for both maps will be reintroduced to our website for those using the existing printed editions through 2019.
- Stock leftover will go into storage, but expect us to stage a pop up or two later this year, announcements to be made in our social media pages (links below).
Our staff may take some well-deserved time off after we close our doors in June but if you are hiring, let us know.
We also have a cozy 80sqm office in the CBD near the Chong Nongsi BTS station that we’re happy to show to anyone looking for a reasonably priced space to set up business, our landlady having been most kind and helpful to us. It will be available as of July 1st or earlier.
We will be announcing furniture and office equipment sales on our Facebook Bangkok page in coming weeks.
Last but not least, we will continue to protect our copyright. Nancy Chandler Graphics may eventually go dormant, but can be revived to take legal action if necessary. In other words, if you are interested in using our artwork, do ask for licensing opportunities first.
Please feel free to email us at sales@nancychandler.net with any questions or special requests.

The Combined Ladies Lunch hosted by the British Women's Group, Siam Kempinski, Rama I Road, 10am-3pm.
A private event for members of international women’s groups, which is where Nancy got her start in Bangkok, illustrating for the American Women’s Club of Thailand’s magazine. Funds raised will also go towards the special vocational school Steps with Theera, where Nancy's daughter Kim has found a community and learned valuable life skills, including baking. Her dream is to have her own stall at these events in the future. It couldn't be a more fitting passing of the baton!
