4th OF JULY CELEBRATION July 4, 2015 This annual American Independence Day celebration at the River Market (C3) is a big taste of USA fun. BUDDHIST LENT (PUBLIC HOLIDAY) July 30-31, 2015 Expect offices, banks and government services to be closed for Asarnha Bucha Day (also called Asalaha Bucha Day), a Buddhist holiday commemorating Buddha's first teaching to his followers, and Wan Kao Pansa, which is the beginning of Buddhist Lent marking the onset of the rainy season retreat when monks remain indoors. Alcohol will likely be banned from sale so several bars may also close for a night or two. For those interested in participating, many temples will be hosting mass alms giving ceremonies.
